John Keim of theย Washington Examinerย assesses the Redskins’ tight end situation as they end into the offseason.
According to Keim,ย Redskins will have to make key decisions on tight ends Fred Davis and Chris Cooley in the coming weeks.
The report underscores the Redskins’ need at the tight end position and how the team must re-sign Fred Davis.
It would cost the teamย $6.6 million to franchiseย Davis for a second straight season, soย the team will haveย to determine whether or not he’s a part of their long-term plans. Aย long-term agreement would most likely reduce that figure, which in turn could give them some extra cash for upgrades at other positions.
Keim adds thatย it’s “hard to imagine” Washington bringing backย Chris Cooley next season.ย
Cooley, 30, played very little in his return to the team this season. It’s really hard to say what he has left, which is somewhat surprising given his age, but injuries have obviously taken a toll on him.
We have Davis listed as the No. 45 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
