Free Agent Notes: Giants, G Mike Brisiel, Brett Smith, & DE/OLB Phillip Hunt

Giants

Giants co-owner John Mara told reporters on Monday that they are not actively looking for an offensive lineman who could replace retired G Chris Snee, per Connor Orr.

  • Mara mentioned that they were given enough time to prepare for Snee’s departure.

John Jerry and Brandon Mosley should compete for playing time at guard during training camp.

Mike Brisiel

Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that free agent G Mike Brisiel would fit Giants offensive system if they were to look for an upgrade to their current depth.

However, Caplan mentions that Brisiel has not been contacted by the Giants up to this point, but he has found interest from the Dolphins and Bears this year.

Brisiel, 31, was cut loose by the Raiders back in April. He appeared in 15 games for Oakland last season and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 43 guard in the league.

Phillip Hunt

ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that free agent DE/OLB Phillip Hunt has recovered from ACL surgery and should begin to work out for NFL teams at some point in the near future.

Hunt, 28, originally signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Houston back in 2009. He wound up playing two seasons for the Eagles before they waived/injured him last August.

Hunt wound up sitting out the entire 2013 season, due to an ACL tear.

Brett Smith

  • The Toronto Argonauts signed former Buccaneers QB Brett Smith on Monday.
