Free agent RB Rashad Jennings tells the News & Advance that heโs โin the best shape of [his] life.โ
โIโm in the best shape of my life. Iโm always going to be in shape,โ Jennings said. โThatโs what Iโm known for across the league. A team knows theyโre going to have a player thatโs going to be in the best shape of their life.โ]
Jennings added that he understands how the free agent process works, but he still expects to sign with a team before the start of the upcoming season.
โFree agency right now, Iโm going into year nine. I understand free agency and how it works,โ Jennings said. โI feel like Iโll be landing with a team in the next two months, but right now I feel Iโm in such a peaceful place in my life, though, from transitioning to another team, transitioning to other things outside of football, doing all the philanthropic work that I do. Iโm just in a peaceful place.โ
Jennings, 32, is a former seventh-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2009. He spent four years in Jacksonville before signing on with the Raiders in 2013.
The Giants later signed him to a four-year, $10 million contract that included $2.98 million guaranteed and he was set to make a base salary of $2.48 million for the 2017 season when New York released him in a move that freed up $2.5 million of available cap space.
In 2016, Jennings appeared in 13 games and rushed for 593 yards on 181 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with 35 receptions for 201 yards receiving and four total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 58 running back out of 62 qualifying players.
