Dan Arkush of Pro Football Weekly takes a lot at some of the free agent players that the St Louis Rams may consider once free agency is set to begin. Arkush specifically mentions Eagles S Quintin Mikell, Giants DT Barry Cofield, and Vikings LB Ben Leber as players that will garner some amount consideration for the Rams.
โMikell played under Spagnuolo in Philly when the head coach was an assistant with the Eagles,โ Arkush writes. โCofield played under Spagnuolo in New York along with Robbins and Leber has a history worth noting with Rams LB coach Paul Ferraro, who previously coached Minnesotaโs special teams. All three players could figure as potential instant starters at positions widely considered to be in dire need of more depth.โ
The Rams lost O.J. Atogwie to the Redskins during the brief free agency period back in February so adding a safety makes plenty of sense and Mikell is a solid veteran that could really help the back end of their secondary. Cofieldโs name has come up periodically as a possibility but he would also be a great addition to St Louisโs young defensive line.
Darren Sproles has been the common name linked to the Rams. Itโs been no secret that the Rams plan to limit Steven Jacksonโs carries for the coming years and the addition of a quality third-down running back would give them a better balance in regards to their backfield.
