ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted Tuesday that New York Giants RE Jason Pierre-Paul underwent back surgery Tuesday morning in Los Angeles.
JPP, a young stud for the Giants defensive line, had a down 2012 campaign with just 66 tackles and 6.5 sacks. The back issues could be to blame for the decline from his rookie year.
The belief is that Pierre-Paul will begin training camp on the PUP list and as Schefter says, should be ready for the beginning of the season.
The Giants let Osi Umenyiora test the free agent market, where he found his way to the Atlanta Falcons. If JPP isn’t ready for Week 1, half of the Giants’ starting defensive lien from 2012 would be missing.
