Giants Sign DT John Jenkins, Waive OLB Romeo Okwara

According to Art Stapleton, the Giants are waiving OLB Romeo Okwara on Tuesday.

Stapleton adds that they’ve signed DT John Jenkins to a contract to replace Okwara.

Jenkins, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Saints back in 2013. Jenkins spent three years in New Orleans before he was waived during the 2016 season. He later caught on with the Seahawks and finished out the year in Seattle.

The Bears signed him to a one-year contract last offseason but released him sixth months later and quickly re-signed him two days after. He was just recently cut loose.

In 2017, Jenkins appeared in eight games for the Bears and recorded eight total tackles.

Okwara, 23, signed on with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame back in 2016. He is in the final year of a three-year, $1.62 million contract and is set to earn a base salary of $630,000 this season.

The Giants placed him on injured reserve back in October of last year with an MCL injury and later designated him to return.

In 2017, Okwara appeared in six games and recorded three total tackles and no sacks.
