Glen Coffee Retires

In what is shaping up to be one of the strangest stories of the offseason, Glen Coffee has decided to retire after . This report comes from Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.

Coffee issued this state later in the day: “This has been a tough decision for me, but at this time in my life I feel it’s best for me that I move on from football. I appreciate what the 49ers, my teammates and coaches have done for me, and I wish them a blessed season and all the best in the future.

Here are some comments from 49ersย  head coach Mike Singletary:

Mike Singletary apparently said that “Coffee’s retirement decision came out of the blue.”

โ€œHis demeanor was, โ€˜I really hate to lay this on you, coach. But since college, my heart just hasnโ€™t been in it. As a matter of fact, I came out early because my heart wasnโ€™t in it,โ€™ Singletary said. “All I asked him was, โ€˜Are you sure? Have you really thought about this?โ€™ He said, โ€˜Yes, I have. I thought about it for a long time.”

Singletary also said he was “sad” that Coffee quit because Coffee is an “exceptional young man.”

With the loss of their No. 2 RB, we can now add the 49ersย  to the list of suitors for the available free agents.
