Texans DE J.J. Watt told reporters during a conference call on Wednesday that he isn’t looking for an extension, despite the fact that he has no more guaranteed money included in his current deal.
“No, I don’t think that’s necessary,” Watt said, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “I’m not going to sit here and demand anything. If I asked for an extension or money right now, I think that would be the wrong move. I’m going out there to make sure these people know that I’m worth it.”
Watt also mentioned that he hasn’t contemplated retirement down the road.
“Not really, no,” Watt said. “I don’t have the answer as to what it’ll like when I’m done.”
Instead, Watt said he’s focused on a having “day-to-day” mentality.
Watt, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Texans back in 2011. He’s in the sixth year of his eight-year, $108.88 million contract that includes $51.8 million guaranteed.
Watt is owed non-guaranteed base salaries of $15.5 million and $17.5 million in 2020 and 2021.
In 2019, Watt appeared in eight games and recorded 24 tackles, four sacks, a forced fumble, two recoveries and two pass defenses.
