Texans DE J.J. Watt told reporters during a conference call on Wednesday that he isnโt looking for an extension, despite the fact that he has no more guaranteed money included in his current deal.
โNo, I donโt think thatโs necessary,โ Watt said, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. โIโm not going to sit here and demand anything. If I asked for an extension or money right now, I think that would be the wrong move. Iโm going out there to make sure these people know that Iโm worth it.โ
Watt also mentioned that he hasnโt contemplated retirement down the road.
โNot really, no,โ Watt said. โI donโt have the answer as to what itโll like when Iโm done.โ
Instead, Watt said heโs focused on a having โday-to-dayโ mentality.
Watt, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Texans back in 2011. Heโs in the sixth year of his eight-year, $108.88 million contract that includes $51.8 million guaranteed.
Watt is owed non-guaranteed base salaries of $15.5 million and $17.5 million in 2020 and 2021.
In 2019, Watt appeared in eight games and recorded 24 tackles, four sacks, a forced fumble, two recoveries and two pass defenses.
