Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union, citing a league source, is reporting that the Jaguars are nearing an agreement on a new contract with free agent DT Abry Jones.
Jones is in line to be one of the best available interior defensive linemen available in this year’s free agent class, so it will be interesting to see what kind of deal he’s able to secure close to a month away from the start ofย free agency.
Jones, 25, wound up signing on with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia back in 2013. He’s managed to make the 53-man roster since entering the NFL and returned to the Jaguars last year on a one-year, $2.553 million contract.
In 2016, Jones appearedย 15 games for the Jaguars and recorded 32 tackles, no sacks, and a pass defense.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 21 interior defensive lineman out of 127 qualifying players.
We have him featured in ourย Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
