The Jaguars re-signed veteran TE Marcedes Lewisย to a three-year deal, according to Mark Long.
Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell previouslyย reporters thatย he was hoping to have an extension in place with Lewis before the start of free agency.
Lewis is one of theirย best pass blockers, and is a good No. 2 option to starting TE Juliusย Thomas.
Lewis, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2006. He’s in line to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming weeks, and tight ends are always of interest to NFL teams, so he could have a better than expected market.
In 2015, Lewis appeared in all 16 games for the Jaguars and recorded 16 receptions for 226 yards receiving and no touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 37 tight end out of 67 qualifying players.
