Dareus was due a $2 million roster bonus on March 15 with a non-guaranteed base salary of $8.335 million, per Yates. The restructure gives him $5 million right away and eliminates the final year of his deal, making him under contract until 2020.
The restructure ensures Dareus will return to the Jaguars in 2019. Dareus is scheduled to make a new base salary of $2.835 million.
Dareus, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Bills back in 2011. He signed a massive seven-year, $103.2 million contract that included $60 million guaranteed with the Bills back in 2015 before being traded to the Jaguars in 2017 for a 2018 sixth-round pick.
Dareus played 15 games in 2018, racking up 32 total tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. He was Pro Football Focus‘ No. 25 interior defender in 2018.
