Ian Rapoport reports that NFL teams have contacted the Jaguars to inquire about S Tashaun Gipson and the belief is that he’s available for trade.
The Jaguars are in a tough cap situation, so it’s not surprising to hear that Gipson is available for trade.
Other players such as DL Malik Jackson and RB Carlos Hyde are reportedly available for trade as well.
Gipson, 28, signed on with the Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming back in 2012. He returned to Cleveland a one-year restricted tender with the Browns worth $2.356 million for the 2015 season before signing a five-year deal worth $35.5 contract with the Jaguars in 2016.
According to OverTheCap.com, trading Gipson would free up $7,450,000 of available cap space while creating $1.6 million in dead money.
In 2018, Gipson appeared in all 16 games for the Jaguars and recorded 54 tackles, one interception and seven pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 37 safety out of qualifying 93 players.
