Jaguars Sign WR DeAndre Smelter, Waive/Injured DT Mike Hughes

Mike Kaye of First Coast News reports that the Jaguars have signed WR DeAndre Smelter to a contract on Friday and waived DT Mike Hughes with an injury designation.

Should Hughes clear waivers on Monday, he would revert to the Jaguars’ injured serve list.

Smelter, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the 49ers back in 2015. He was in the second year of his four-year, $2.28 million rookie contract when the 49ers waived him at the start of the 2016 season.

Smelter later signed on to the 49ers’ practice squad and was on and off of the unit last year. The Colts signed him to a futures contract this past January only to cut him loose last month.

In 2016, Smelter appeared in two games for the 49ers and caught one pass for 23 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
