Jets Are Giving Joe McKnight “A Near Full-Time Role” At CB

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan mentioned that they plan to give RB Joe McKnight “a near full-time role” as a cornerback now that they have lost Darrelle Revis for the season.

“He’ll have a role on offense, but we’re also teaching him how to play corner,” coach Rex Ryan said, via Brian Costello. “Not quite a full-time capacity, but he’s going to be over there a ton in the meetings and everything else. … He has the necessary skills to be able to play corner. He’s got the speed, the size, the athleticism, the ball skills.”

The Jets running back situation isn’t much better. It will be interesting to see how much McKnight plays on the defensive side of the ball against the 49ers this weekend, but it is a pretty clear indication that Shonn Greene and Bilal Powell will be handling the ground game from here on.
