Ndamukong Suh tells Jordan Schultz that the Jets have emerged as a “serious contender” in recent days along with the Titans, Rams and Saints.
As of now, there’s no visit scheduled with the Jets, but the Jets and HC Todd Bowles have discussed how they would use Suh if he signed with them.
Ian Rapoport confirms that the Jets have made the largest offer to Suh, but it’s possible that he could accept less money from one of the other interested teams.
Suh has met with the Saints, Titans and Rams since becoming available last week and had a visit with the Raiders canceled. The Seahawks and Cowboys were also mentioned as potential options for Suh, but it doesn’t appear as though they’re serious options at this point in time.
It’s worth mentioning that signing Suh to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.
Suh, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Lions back in 2010. He spent five years in Detroit before signing a six-year, $114 million contract that included $60 million guaranteed with the Dolphins a few years ago.
Suh was set to make base salaries of $16.985 million (2018), $18.985 million (2019), and $18.36 million (2020) over the remainder of the contract when the Dolphins designated him as a post-June 1 release.
In 2017, Suh appeared in all 16 games for the Dolphins and recorded 48 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two pass defenses.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 interior defender out of 122 qualifying players.
We have him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
