Brian Costello of the New York Post reports that there has been a feeling inside the Jets for weeks now that OC Chan Gailey would not be back with the team in 2017.
- According to Costello, Jets HC Todd Bowles is expected to make “major changes” to his coaching staff after the season.
- Ian Rapoport mentions that the Jets are likely to look for a new offensive coordinator who values the tight end position and running game. Rapoport adds that Gailey could either take an advisory role with the team or just move on.
- Alex Marvez tosses out Chargers HC Mike McCoy as a name to watch for the Jets if he’s fired by San Diego in the coming days.
Gailey, 64, was hired to run the Jets’ offense back in 2015. However, after an impressive first year in New York, the Jets’ offense has really taken a major step back in 2016.
The Jets currently rank No. 25 in total yards, No. 13 in rushing yards, No. 27 in passing yards and No. 30 in points scored this year.
We’ll have more regarding potential changes to the Jets’ coaching staff as the news is available.
