According to Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline, the Jets are in hot pursuit for Titans pending free-agent OT Jack Conklin.
Conklin would help shore up the Jets’ offensive line, which is the team’s biggest weakness and GM Joe Douglas‘ top priority this offseason.
If New York doesn’t win the expected bidding war for Conklin, Pauline adds New York could pursue Eagles OT Halapoulivaati Vaitai as a backup plan and someone who could start at multiple positions.
Conklin is expected to hit the open market as one of the top offensive tackles available and a number of OL-needy teams will be interested.
Unless they sign him to a long-term deal, the Titans likely won’t be able to keep him unless they forego using the franchise tag on either QB Ryan Tannehill or RB Derrick Henry.
Conklin, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Titans out of Michigan back in 2016. He just finished the final year of his four-year, $15,897,658 deal and made a base salary of $2,617,863 for the 2019 season.
The Titans declined Conklin’s fifth-year option last year that would have been worth $12.866 million, making him an unrestricted free agent this year for the first time in his career.
In 2019, Conklin started all 16 games for the Titans at right tackle. He finished the year as Pro Football Focus‘ No. 10 offensive tackle out of 81 qualifying players.
