Connor Hughes reports that the Jets are in on free-agent CBs James Bradberry, while they are also monitoring Falcons CB Desmond Trufant, who is expected to be released from Atlanta.
New York has reportedly targetting Bradberry and cornerback free-agents this entire offseason so this does not come as a surprise. (NFLTR)
Bradberry, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Panthers back in 2016. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.96 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $990,114 for the 2019 season.
Bradberry is an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career this offseason.
He has widely been considered as one of the best cornerbacks available on the open market this offseason and could reset the current salary bar for the position.
In 2019, Bradberry has appeared in 12 games for the Panthers and recorded 57 tackles, one sack, three interceptions and nine pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 68 cornerback out of 113 qualifying players.
We have him featured in our Top 50 – 2020 Free Agents list.
Trufant, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Falcons back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $8.165 million contract when the Falcons picked up his fifth-year option worth $8.026 million for the 2017 season.
Atlanta later signed Trufant to a five-year, $69 million extension with nearly $42 million guaranteed in 2017. He stands to make a base salary of $10.75 million for the 2020 season.
According to Over The Cap, releasing Trufant as a June 1 cut will free up $10.75 million while incurring a $4.4 million dead money charge.
In 2019, Trufant appeared in nine games for the Falcons and recorded 18 tackles, four interceptions and seven passes defended.
