According to Dan Graziano, free agent DT Johnathan Hankins is visiting with the Jets on Thursday.
Hankins visited with the Redskins, but it’s clear that Washington isn’t willing to meet his asking price. The Lions reportedly had some interest too, but they elected to go in a differentย direction at defensive tackle.
It’s worth mentioning that signing Hankins to contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.
Hankins, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Giants back in 2013. He played out the final year of his rookieย contractย last year before signing aย three-year, $27 million contract that included $14.5 million guaranteed with the Colts.
Hankins was set to make base salaries of $7.5 million and $8 million over the next two years of the agreement when the Colts released him in a move that cleared $8,468,750 of available cap space.
In 2017, Hankins appeared in 15 games for the Colts and recorded 44 tackles, two sacks, and three pass defenses.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 20 interior defensive lineman out of 122 qualifying players.
