The New York Jets announced Thursday that they’ve used a second-round restricted tender on WR Robby Anderson.
The Jets also tendered contracts to nine exclusive rights free agents including:
- QB Davis Webb
- WR Deontay Burnett
- RB De’Angelo Henderson
- OL Ben Braden
- DL Bronson Kaufusi
- LB Frankie Luvu
- LB Anthony Wint
- CB Jeremy Clark
- S Doug Middleton
The second-round tender will cost them $3.095 million for the 2019 season and ensure that they receive a second-round pick for him if they decline to match an offer he receives from another team.
It’s rare for a team to sign a restricted free agent and part with a second-round pick in the process, so this will likely lead to him returning to New York for the 2019 season.
Last year, Anderson’s name came up as a possible trade candidate leading up to the deadline, but the Jets elected to hold on to him.
Anderson, 25, wound up signing on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Temple back in 2016. He played out the final year of his three-year, $1.62 million contract and made a base salary of $630,000 for the 2018 season.
Anderson will be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
In 2018, Anderson appeared in 14 games for the Jets and caught 50 receptions for 752 yards and six touchdowns.
