Jets Promoting QB Davis Webb From Practice Squad

Field Yates reports that the Jets are promoting QB Davis Webb from their practice squad to the active roster in time for Week 10.

Yates adds that Jets rookie QB Sam Darnold is dealing with a foot injury and is doubtful to play on Sunday.ย Webb will serve as the Jets’ backup quarterback to Josh McCown.

Ralph Vacchianoย reported earlier this week that Webb was expected to be promoted with Darnold unlikely to play, so this move does not come as a surprise.

Webb, 23, is a former third-round pick of the Giants back in 2017. He was in the second year of his four-year, $3.61 million contract and set to make a base salary of $604,151 for the 2018 season when the Giants waived him coming out of the preseason.

The Jets later signed Webb to their practice squad.

During his four-year college career with Texas Tech and California, Webb recordedย 841 completions on 1,367 attempts (61.5 percent) for 9,852 passing yards (7.2 YPA), 83 touchdowns and 34 interceptions.
