Jets Rookie TE Chris Herndon Arrested, Charged With DWI

Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald reports that Jets rookie TE Chris Herndon was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after being involved in a car accident this past Saturday.

According to the report, Herndon was driving a Nissan Armada and hit and totaled a Toyota FJ-40 Land Cruiser in New Jersey at 4:45 a.m. Saturday.

A source close to the victim tells Degnan that Herndon also demolished a railroad motorcar and the attached trailer.

The 76-year-old man injured in the accident sustained a bruised and gashed arm, but it’s unknown whether Herndon was injured in the crash.

“The case remains under investigation,” New Jersey State Police spokesman Jeff Flynn said. “Mr. Herndon was arrested and charged with DWI. The DWI charge is considered a violation of New Jersey motor vehicle statutes.”

A witness on the scene tells the Miami Herald that Herndon appeared to be speeding.

“We are aware of the situation and have no further comment at this time.

Herndon, 22, was selected with the No. 107 overall pick in the fourth round of this year’s draft by the Jets. According to OverTheCap.com, he receives a four-year, $3,171,368 contract that includes a $711,368 signing bonus.

During his three-year college career at Miami, Herndon caught 86 passes for 1,048 yards receiving (12.2 YPC) to go along with seven touchdowns over the course of 34 games.
