Jets Signing WR Rishard Matthews

Adam Schefter reports that the Jets are signing veteran WR Rishard Matthews to a contract on Tuesday.

The Jets recently brought Matthews in for a workout, so he was clearly on their radar as a potential addition.

Last week, Matthews said he didn’t think he’d sign on with a team this year, but it appears as though the Jets stepped up made him an offer.

Matthews, 28, is a former seventh-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2012. He spent four years in Miami before signing a three-year, $15 million contract with the Titans in 2016.

Matthews was set to make a base salary of $5 million for the 2018 season when he agreed to a new one-year extension last month worth a base value of $7.75M for the 2019 season. The Titans elected to cut him loose shortly after he requested his release from the team.

In 2018, Matthews has appeared in three games and caught three passes for 11 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
