According to an agent who spoke withย Rich Cimini of ESPN New York, the odds of the Jets tradingย CBย Darrelle Revisย before the NFL Draft aren’t very good.
“Not a chance,” said the agent.
He added that the lack of cap space around the NFL is really the mainย impedimentย for a Revis trade.
Revis, 27, is believed to be targeting as much asย $16 million annually in his contract. That would put him up there withย Bills DEย Mario Williamsย as the highest paid defensive player in the league.
Revis can void his contract after the 2013 season. Due to a clause in his contract, the Jets will not be able to franchise him next offseason, so idea regarding a trade is related to them securing better than the third-round compensatory pick they would receive if he were to depart via free agency. NFL teams are reluctant to trade high draft picks in situations where they would have to sign a guy to massive contract, so it makes that the Jets would have a hard time trading him given these factors.
