Latest On Extension Talks Between Cowboys & Dak Prescott

Ian Rapoport reports that the Cowboys have opened long-term extension negotiations with QB Dak Prescott, which would make him the highest paid player in franchise history.

Rapoport adds that Prescott is expected to earn in the range of $30 million annually, which would make him fourth highest paid quarterback in the NFL.

Rapoport also reports that the Cowboys have begun negotiating with WR Amari Cooper but have yet to speak with RB Ezekiel Elliott.

According to Rapoport, there is “no doubt” Cooper will want to be paid among the top receivers in the league.

The last we heard, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones mentioned that the team won’t balk on signing Prescott to a long-term deal, so they clearly want to get a deal done.

โ€œWeโ€™re sold on Dak, and we do want to have him for the long term,โ€ Jones said via Pro Football Talk. โ€œWe think heโ€™s worthy of investing in for the long term. . . .We see real upside in Dak. You donโ€™t have it all yet.โ€

Yesterday, Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram reported that the Cowboys have made “more progress” in contract negotiations with Prescott than Cooper.

Hill added that the Cowboys appear to be “nonplussed” about making the Prescott the highest paid player in team history worth around $30 million or more per seasons.

Prescott, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2016. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $2.72 million contract and set to make a base salary of $720,000 for the 2019 season.

In 2018, Prescott has appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys and completed 67.7 percent of his passes for 3,885 yards to go along with 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He has also rushed for 305 yards and six touchdowns.
