Latest On Negotiations Between Cowboys & Dak Prescott

According to Ed Werder, discussions between the Cowboys and QB Dak Prescott on a contract extension have not been contentious so far. 

While Werder’s source tells him they wouldn’t say a resolution to a new deal is close, they did say Prescott should emerge as the NFL’s highest-paid player. 

The source added the postponement of the April 6 start for OTA’s eliminated the team’s deadline and is a factor in negotiations. 

Since Dallas reopened negotiations with Prescott yesterday, here’s what we know: 

• According to Liz Loza of Yahoo, the Cowboys are rumored to be closing on a four-year contract with an annual salary of $35 million with Prescott. 
• Charles Robinson confirmed that Dallas is pushing for a five-year contract with Prescott. The issue to watch remains the length of a potential deal. 
• Ian Rapoport confirmed the two parties have re-engaged on long-term extension talks and are communicating and would like to work out a deal. There are still issues to be resolved but they’re working on it. 

Dallas has said they still plan to get a long-term extension in place with Prescott. A recent report mentioned that the Cowboys were offering Prescott $33 million per year, so it appears Dallas may have increased their offer. (NFLTR)

Prescott, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2016. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $2.72 million contract and was in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

The franchise tag will cost the Cowboys $26.824 million fully guaranteed for the 2020 season.

In 2019, Prescott appeared in all 16 games and completed 65.1 percent of his passes for 4,902 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He has also rushed for 277 yards and three touchdowns for Dallas. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 10 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.
