Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that while an Andy Dalton trade isn’t currently on the front burner for the Bengals, it does sound like he’ll be moved this offseason.
Bengals executive Duke Tobin previously told Rapoport that they aren’t just going to trade Dalton anywhere and instead plan to work with him to find the right situation this offseason.
Rapoport says there haven’t been any serious negotiations with teams about a Dalton deal as of now, but his agent has been working with the team to find an option.
As for potential landing spots, Rapoport lists the Bears, Colts and Patriots, depending of course on what happens with Tom Brady this offseason. Regarding the Colts, Rapoport says the Colts are expected to have some interest in Dalton along with Philip Rivers, who has been heavily linked to Indianapolis in recent weeks.
Recent reports have said that the Bengals have spoken to the Bears about a trade involving Dalton. Chicago seems to make a lot of sense for Dalton, considering that the Bears are expected to bring in a veteran quarterback this offseason and he has ties to their new OC Bill Lazor.
Dalton, 32, is a former second-round pick of the Bengals back in 2011. He’s currently entering the final year of his seven-year, $97.09 million contract, which includes $17 million guaranteed.
Dalton stands to make a base salary of $17.5 million in 2020.
In 2019, Dalton appeared in 13 games for the Bengals and threw for 3,494 yards while completing 59.5 percent of his passes to go along with 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 27 receiver out of 37 qualifying players.
We’ll have more on Dalton as the news is available.
