Latest On Redskins LT Trent Williams

On Monday, Redskins president Bruce Allen told reporters that there’s been “no dialogue” with any team regarding a potential trade for holdout LT Trent Williams.

When asked if they would consider trading Williams, Allen said: “No, not at this time.

A source very close to Williams tells Dianna Russini that โ€œTrent doesnโ€™t have any plans of returning to the Redskins anytime soon.โ€

Allen had previously expressed optimism that Williams would eventually rejoin the team, but it’s clear that he’s entrenched in his stance to not play for Washington. He will remain a popular name in trade rumors leading up to the deadline later this month.

A few weeks ago, Adam Schefter reported that the Redskins are unwilling to forgive the fines Williams has accrued up to this point and will not give him a new contract.

Williams reportedly owes Washington close to $1.9 million in fines and signing bonus proration and has cost himself the opportunity to earn close to another $1 million by holding out.

Schefter mentioned that Williams has a $150,000 workout de-escalator that kicked in and lowered his base salary from $11 million to $10.85 million. Beyond that, Williams owes the Redskins $743,000 of pro-ration from his signing bonus and has likely has accrued $1.2 million in fines.

Williams failed to cash in on $653,941 of salary by staying away from the Redskins.

Williams requested either a trade or release earlier this offseason and has reportedly vowed not to play for Washington in 2019.

Williams, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Redskins back in 2010. He currently in the fourth year of his five-year, $66 million contract that includes $43.25 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $11 million and $12.5 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Williams started 13 games for the Redskins.  Pro Football Focus rated Williams as the No. 21 tackle out of 80 qualifying players.

We’ll have more on the situation with the Redskins and Williams as the news is available.
