Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski is expected to take some time after the season to mull over his future.
Florio’s source mentioned that Gronkowski hasn’t given the possibility of retiring much thought yet and he likely will spend some time considering his options after the Patriots’ season has concluded.
According to Florio, the two factors that are expected to influence Gronkowski’s decision are whether he’s healthy after the Super Bowl and if Tom Brady officially returns for the 2019 season.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported earlier that Gronkowski is healthier now than he was at almost any other point this season and feels 100 percent after battling injuries for most of the season.
Sources tell Rapoport that Gronkowski was dealing with Achilles tendonitis and a bulging disc in his back this season, which likely impacted his production and ability.
Rapoport adds that it took Gronkowski until Week 15 for him to be removed from the injury.
Reports have mentioned that Gronkowski could call it a career and walk away after this season. However, Gronkowski hasn’t offered much other than he expects to take some time after the season to mull over his future.
Gronkowski, 29, is a former second-round pick of the Patriots back in 2010. He is in the sixth year of his eight-year, $55.23 million contract that included $13.17 million guaranteed.
In 2018, Gronkowski appeared in 13 games for the Patriots and recorded 47 receptions for 682 yards receiving (14.5 YPC) and scored three touchdowns.
We’ll have more regarding Gronkowski as the news is available.
