Lions Activate LB Devon Kennard From NFI List, Re-Sign CB Josh Okonye

The Detroit Lions announced Wednesday that they’ve signed free agent CB Josh Okonye and waived CB Amari Coleman.

The Lions also activated LB Devon Kennard from Active/Non-Football Injury and he’s expected to return to practice today.

Kennard, 27, is a former fifth-round pick of the Giants back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2,364,560 contract with the Giants and made a base salary of $1,797,000 for the 2017 season.

The Lions signed Kennard to a three-year, $18.75 million contract this past March.

In 2017, Kennard appeared in 15 games for the Giants and recorded 41 tackles, four sacks, a fumble recovery and two pass defenses.

Okonye, 22, wound up going undrafted out of Purdue back in May before signing a contract with the Lions. Unfortunately, Detroit cut him loose soon after.

During his four-year college career at Wake Forest and Purdue, Okonye recorded 121 tackles, eight tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, 13 pass defenses, a forced fumble and a recovery over the course of 40 games.
