Lions Claim OLB Armonty Bryant Off Waivers From Browns, Place DE Wallace Gilberry On I.R.

The Detroit Lions announced Tuesday that they’ve claimed OLB Armonty Bryant off of waivers and placed DE Wallace Gilberry on injured reserve, per Justin Rogers.

Bryant was previously indicted on two counts of felony drug possession stemming from a Christmas-day arrest in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

Bryant, 26, is a former seventh-round pick of the Browns back in 2013. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2.221 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $675,000 for the 2016 season.

The Browns elected to waive him on Monday.

In 2015, Bryant has appeared in 14 games and recorded 40 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a recovery for the Browns.

Gilberry, 31, wound up signing on with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama back in 2008. He lasted just a few months in New York before being signed off of their practice squad by the Chiefs.

Gilberry later caught on with the Buccaneers in 2012 before signing with the Bengals during the 2012 season. Cincinnati elected to bring him back on a three-year deal in 2013. The Lions signed him to a contract back in April.

In 2016, Gilberry has appeared in four games and recorded four tackles and no sacks for the Lions.
