The Detroit Lions announced Saturday that they’ve hired Bengals assistant special teams coach Brayden Coombs as their new special teams coordinator.
The Packers expressed some interest in Coombs last year, but ultimately remained with the Bengals.
Coombs was hired by the Bengals back in 2009 as a coaching intern before being promoted to coaching assistant the following year. He contributed to the Bengals’ defensive staff and focused on defensive backs before moving to the offensive side of the ball in 2012 and focusing on wide receivers.
From there, the Bengals made Coombs assistant special teams coach in 2013 and he later assisting the coaching of cornerbacks in 2016.
Football Outsiders have the Bengalsโ special teams unit ranked No. 1 overall in 2019.
