Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Lions have agreed to a two-year contract with DE Romeo Okwara.
Pelissero says that Okwara’s new contract averages more than the second-round restricted tender with incentives on top.
The second-round restricted tender is projected to cost $3.095 million for the 2019 season.
Okwara, 23, signed on with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame back in 2016. He is in the final year of a three-year, $1.62 million contract and is set to earn a base salary of $630,000 the 2018 season when the Giants waived him coming out of the preseason.
The Lions later claimed Okwara off of waivers and he finished out the year in Detroit. He was in line to be a restricted free agent this offseason. In 2017, Okwara appeared in six games and recorded three total tackles and no sacks.
In 2018, Okwara appeared in 15 games for the Lions and recorded 39 tackles, 7.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 63 edge rusher out of 103 qualifying players.
