The Detroit Lions announced today that they have released the following players:
RB Tra Carson
LS James Fisher
G Casey Tucker
P Matt Wile— Detroit Lions (@Lions) April 27, 2020
Wile, 27, originally signed on with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan back in 2015. He bounced on and off their roster until signing with the Cowboys during the 2016 offseason.
Wile lasted six months in Dallas before having brief stints with the Falcon, Cardinals and Steelers. The Vikings claimed him off of waivers at the start of last year before cutting him loose at the start of the season.
The Falcons signed Wile to their practice squad and he’s bounced on and off Atlanta’s roster while they’ve dealt with punter injuries before being released himself with a settlement a few weeks ago.
Wile bounced on and off Detroit’s practice squad a couple times last season as well. He signed a futures deal for 2020.
In 2019, Wile appeared in two games for the Falcons and recorded six punts for 290 yards (48.3 average), no touchbacks and three kicks inside the 20.
Carson, 27, originally signed on with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M back in 2016. After being waived and signed to their practice squad, Carson was eventually promoted to the Bengals’ active roster.
The Bengals later cut Carson loose with an injury settlement and he eventually signed on to the Packers’ practice squad. Green Bay him during the season and he was claimed by the Lions.
Detroit placed Carson on injured reserve before eventually releasing him in November. He signed a futures deal for 2020.
In 2019, Carson appeared in three games for the Packers and Lions and rushed for 48 yards on 18 carries (2.7 YPC) to go along with four receptions for 18 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
