Lions Release S Taylor Mays, Giants An Option?

The Detroit Lions released veteran S Taylor Mays on Friday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

  • Rapoport wonders if the Giants could have interest in Mays given the number of injuries they’ve sustained at the safety position.
  • Other options for May, according to Rapoport, could include the Eagles and Dolphins.

Mays, 27, is a former second-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010. He was later traded to the Bengals for an undisclosed draft pick just a year later, and spent four seasons with the franchise, largely participating with the special teams unit.

The Lions elected to sign him to a one-year contract worth $745,000. However, the agreement didn’t include any guaranteed money.

In 2014, Mays appeared in all 16 games for the Bengals and recorded nine tackles, a sack, and a safety. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing just 61 snaps last year.
