Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Lions have signed S Don Carey to a one-year contract extension worth $1.35 million.
- This move will keep Carey under team control through the 2017 season.
Carey, 29, is a former sixth-round pick of the Lions back in 2009. He was in the final year of his four-year, $2.98 million contract and set to make a base salary of $760,000 for the 2016 season.
Carey would have been an unrestricted free agent after the season had he not agreed to a new contract.
This year, Carey has appeared in nine games for the Lions and recorded seven tackles, no interceptions and a forced fumble.
