The Detroit Lions announced that they’ve signed three players to futures contracts for the 2020 season on Tuesday including C Russell Bodine, TE Paul Butler, and TE Matt Sokol.
The Lions have now signed 14 players to futures deals in the past two days including:
- WR Victor Bolden
- WR Jonathan Duhart
- LS James Fisher
- P Jack Fox
- S A.J. Howard
- WR Tom Kennedy
- T Matt Nelson
- DT Olive Sagapolu
- LB Christian Sam
- G Casey Tucker
- P Matt Wile
- C Russell Bodine
- TE Paul Butler
- TE Matt Sokol
Futures deals are essentially camp invites that will give players the opportunity to compete for roster spots during offseason workouts and training camp.
Bodine, 27, is a former fourth-round pick of the Bengals back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2,676,456 contract before agreeing to a two-year contract with the Bills last year.
The Patriots traded a sixth-round pick to the Bills for Bodine coming out of the preseason. However, he lasted just a week in New England before being released.
In 2018, Bodine appeared in 10 games for the Bills, making 10 starts before being placed on injured reserve.
