Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Lions are signing CB Darryl Roberts to a one-year contract on Thursday.
Roberts was reportedly drawing some interest from the Vikings, but it looks like the Lions proved to be his best option.
It’s worth mentioning that signing Roberts to a contract won’t impact the Lions’ 2021 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.
Roberts, 29, is a former seventh-round pick of the Patriots in 2015. He was waived with an injury designation in 2016 and claimed off waivers by the Jets.
Roberts signed a three-year, $18 million extension with the Jets last year and was set to make a base salary of $5 million for the 2020 season when New York released him a few weeks ago.
In 2019, Roberts appeared in 13 games for the Jets and recorded 63 tackles, one interception and six passes defended.
We had him included in our Top 100 Available 2020 Free Agents list.
