Lions WR Nate Burleson Out For The Season

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press tweeted last night that Lions WR Nate Burleson will be out for the remainder of the 2012 season after he suffered a broken leg during Monday night’s loss to the Bears.

Burleson, 31, wasn’t having the best season (27 receptions, 240 yards receiving, 2 touchdowns), but his injury should open up plenty of playing time for young receivers like Titus Young and Ryan Broyles. Opposing defenses are keying in on Calvin Johnson, and rightfully so, which makes it all the more important for someone else to step up and make some plays. Broyles was taken in the second-round of this year’s draft and wound up making some plays against the Bears, which included his first NFL touchdown. It can’t hurt to get these guys involved in their offense and see what they can offer them moving forward.
