Richย Campbell of theย Washington Timesย writes that it’sย “ambitious” to expect QBย Robert Griffin III to be available for the team’s Week 1 matchup next season.
Campbell adds that a Week 1 return is “not impossible,” but cautions that fans should “begin making friends with the concept ofย Kirk Cousinsย starting the 2013 season.”
Griffin will have close to 8 months to prepare and rehab his surgery reconstructed knee. Players that have had this surgery have been back after 6 months, but it’s not as though they were capable of things thatย Griffin was at the start of the 2012 season.
It’s worth noting that the Vikings even went easy on RB Adrian Peterson, who is now the best case scenario when it comes to kneeย surgery, to start the season.
Campbell also mentions that there’s a chance Washington could place RGIII on the reserve/physically-unable-to-perform list at the start of the season, which would require him to missย the first six games of the 2013 season.
There’s no doubt that Griffin has a chance to be under center in Week 1, but knee surgeries affect players in different ways and because of that, it makes sense to consider some of the worst case scenarios.
