NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants

Cowboys

Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott called their Week 7 matchup with the Redskins a must-win game.

“We need to. I think it’s absolutely mandatory that we do,” Elliott said, via Clarence E. Hill of the Star-Telegram. “That’s our focus this week is going into this game, having great communication and starting fast, putting points on the board.”

Eagles

• While the Eagles have positioned themselves for a potential trade after creating a large amount of cap room by reworking DT Fletcher Cox‘s contract, Albert Breer would be surprised to see them trade for Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell.
• According to Breer, Philadelphia believes they have bigger needs to address, particularly their secondary.
• Breer adds that the Eagles weren’t willing to offer a draft pick in the second-round range for Bills RB LeSean McCoy.

Giants

Giants RB Saquon Barkley admitted that people are always going to compare him and his productivity to the quarterbacks taken after him in this year’s draft over his entire career.

“That’s something that is going to go on throughout the rest of my career now no matter what,” Barkley said, via NJ.com. “No matter how much success I have or if I do bad. People have their opinions. To each his own. At the end of the day, people that believe the Giants should have drafted a quarterback over me, I’m not trying to prove anything to them. I’m trying to prove to Coach Shurmur, to my teammates, to the Giants organization that they made the right pick, that they got a guy who is going to come in and work every single day, who is going lead and compete, who is passionate about the game. Those are four things about myself that even coming into the draft process I said whoever drafts me is going to get. I’m going to make sure they get [that] no matter what.”
