NFC Notes: 49er, Rams, Seahawks

49ers

  • 49ers’ HC Kyle Shanahan is still unsure if Jimmy Garoppolo will be ready to go against the Dolphins’ in Week 5: “Still not sure about Jimmy. I don’t really know what we’ll do Wednesday. We’ll have a plan by then. Haven’t talked it over with coaches yet.” (Cam Inman)
  • 49ers’ CB Richard Sherman could return from injured reserve this week but Shanahan said that the team is “still in wait-and-see mode” on if he will practice on Wednesday. (Nick Wagoner)
  • Shanahan adds that he isn’t “real optimistic” that RB Raheem Mostert and Sherman will return against Miami but “there’s always a chance.” (Wagoner)
  • 49ers’ DE Ezekiel Ansah will be placed on injured reserve with torn biceps, becoming the fourth defensive lineman to be put on IR this season. Shanahan addressed the situation, saying it would be hard to bring someone in from the outside to play in Week 5 and that DE Alex Barrett may be brought up from the practice squad. (Matt Barrows)

Rams

  • Rams’ HC Sean McVay says that S Jordan Fuller and RB Cam Akers will both return this week from their respective injuries. (Jourdan Rodrigue)
  • McVay also revealed that LB Micah Kiser has both a strained groin and a strained pectoral that has him listed as day-to-day. (Rodrigue)
  • McVay said that he spoke with CB Jalen Ramsey about the postgame scuffle involving WR Golden Tate and told him that incidents cannot continue to happen, adding: “These are grown men, and I didn’t get into the he-said, she-said.” (Greg Beacham)

Seahawks

The Seahawks beleaguered and battered secondary is set to get some reinforcements soon when CB D.J. Reed comes off of injured reserve soon. Reed was a 2018 fifth-round pick by the 49ers who waived him to try and sneak him onto their injured list during camp. However the Seahawks swooped in to poach him and are hoping to reap the rewards.

“We’re really excited about him,” Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said via Pro Football Talk’s Curtis Crabtree. “He’s a very versatile football player, really aggressive, play-maker type. He’s played corner and safety and nickel. He’s played all those spots. He’s an exciting guy to add in and I think he’ll come in competing for playtime. We’ll have to figure out what’s the best based on what’s going on at the time but I’m not sure what his date is but he’s quick to return, soon to return though.”

  • Carroll won’t know that status of CB Quinton Dunbar and S Jamal Adams until later in the week and their status for Week 5 is up in the air at this point. (John Boyle)
  • Carroll mentioned that RB Rashaad Penny is getting close to making his return and says that DE Darrell Taylor is making progress as well: “I’m really excited about the return of Darrell if he can get back out there with us … the next few weeks. I don’t know that.” (Curtis Crabtree)
