NFC Notes: Kirk Cousins, Rashan Gary, Packers, Vikings

Packers

Packers LB Rashan Gary was emotional when he received the game ball from HC Matt LaFleur after his third game back from a torn ACL and hugged DC Joe Barry after a comeback win over the Saints.

โ€œI donโ€™t think thereโ€™s anybody in here that wouldnโ€™t go to war with this dude,โ€ LaFleur told the team, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.

โ€œIโ€™m gonna try not to get emotional just because it means so much to him,โ€ Barry added. โ€œTo truly sit here and witness what heโ€™s gone through โ€” Iโ€™m the most positive, upbeat person on the planet, as you guys know. I was like, โ€˜Ah, God, thereโ€™s no way Rashanโ€™s gonna be ready Week 1.โ€™ And just to watch what heโ€™s done Week 1, Week 2 and then to see that, it was really, really cool, so it was a cool moment to be a part of, not only the entire game, but just the postgame, and you could see how much it means to that kid.โ€

Packers

  • LaFleur on OL Zach Tomโ€™s knee injury: โ€œHeโ€™s doing better today, but weโ€™ll give him up until game time to try and get it under control.โ€ (Schneidman)
  • LaFleur added that LB Deโ€™Vondre Campbell injured his opposite ankle from the one he hurt during the preseason. (Schneidman)
  • The Packers worked out two kickers this week, Parker White and Jack Podlesny. (Rob Demovsky)

Vikings

ESPNโ€™s Adam Schefter shut down any potential rumors between the Jets and Vikings QB Kirk Cousins.

โ€œThereโ€™s nothing to that right now. But the Vikings are 0-3 and they made a decision where it certainly looks like theyโ€™re going in a different direction than Kirk Cousins next year,โ€ Schefter said, via Vikings Wire. โ€œThatโ€™s the one that, honestly, is a logical fit for both sides, if the Vikings want to do that. At that point theyโ€™re punting on their season. Who are they turning it over to? Nick Mullens? What are you doing if youโ€™re the Vikings? It would send a bad message if you send Kirk Cousins away at this point in time. The problem is, it doesnโ€™t make as much sense to the Vikings and the Jets right now. At least not to my knowledge.โ€

  • Vikings OL Dalton Risnerโ€˜s deal includes a $1.406 million base salary, a $1.375 million signing bonus, and up to $375,000 in per-game active roster bonuses. (Over The Cap)
