NFC Notes: Lions, Packers, Saints, Seahawks

Lions

• Lions HC Jim Caldwell said of a possible contract extension: “I’m not concerned about anything other than how we get our team better, plain and simple.” (Kyle Meinke)

Packers

• In regards to the running back position, Packers HC Mike McCarthy said: “I don’t know when they’ll get here, but we are going to have more running backs before May. I can promise you that.” (Ryan Wood)
• McCarthy said of them possibly having interest in free agent RB Adrian Peterson: “We’re looking at all players. Adrian Peterson is someone we have great respect for.” (Ryan Wood)
• McCarthy said of OLB Jayrone Elliott: “Jayrone Elliott will play as much as he has earned, no different than last year. He does have a big opportunity in front of him.” (Ryan Wood)
• McCarthy said of their plans for Clay Matthews: “Clay needs to be moved around, we can list him anywhere on depth chart, but we have to move him around.” (Chris Roth)

Saints

• According to Saints HC Sean Payton, he knows Drew Brees plans on playing two-four more years. However, Payton added that they’re in the business of evaluating quarterbacks like other years. (Larry Holder)
• Payton mentioned that would consider drafting a quarterback as high as Day 1. (Nick Underhill)
• In regards to his meeting with Johnny Manziel, Payton said: “Had a chance to have breakfast with him. Really that was what it was.” (Albert Breer)
• Payton added that Manziel has decent arm strength but has a lot of work to do along with some off-the-field work as well to return to the NFL. (Larry Holder)
• Payton said of the draft wishlist: “I’d like to come out of this draft with a young offensive lineman. We’ve talked about cornerback. I think it’s an outstanding running back class.” Payton said he thinks some RBs drafted in the middle rounds will play and have good careers.” (Mike Triplett)

Seahawks

• Seahawks HC Pete Carroll told reporters that RB Marshawn Lynch is “somewhat entertaining” the thought of returning. However, Carroll added that he doesn’t know whether he will do so or not. (Bob Condotta)
• Carroll did say that Lynch did not ask the team to be reinstated off the reserve/retired list during his visit with the team. (Bob Condotta)
• In regards to a new deal for S Kam Chancellor, Carroll said they would love to get something done long-term with him this offseason. (Sheil Kapadia)
• Carroll didn’t rule out the possibility of signing Colin Kaepernick as a backup and said “they consider everything.” (Tom Pelisssero)
