Dan Graziano of ESPN reports that the NFL may place Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill on the commissioner’s exempt list as early as this week.
Graziano explains that the NFL has historically declined to use the commissioner’s exempt list in the offseason, but is considering doing so with Hill and making an exception because he’s in the middle of an ongoing criminal investigation.
Graziano mentions that the NFL and the NFLPA have reviewed the audiotape that surfaced of Hill and his fiancรฉe discuss injuries to their child.
By placing Hill on the commissioner’s exempt list, the league can review the situation and allow the legal process to play out after his case was reopened by Kansas City prosecutors last week.
The Chiefs have suspended Hill from all team-related activities.
Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said Saturday that the team is conducting its own internal investigation.
Hill, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2016. He is entering the final year of his four-year, $2.58 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $1,965,036 for the 2019 season.
In 2018, Hill appeared in 16 games for the Chiefs and caught 87 passes for 1,479 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns to go along with 151 yards rushing and a touchdown. Hill also totaled 213 punt returns and one touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 7 receiver out of 117 qualifying players.
We’ll have more regarding Hill as the news is available.
