ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the New England Patriots have made the decision to extend their franchise tag Pro Bowl guard Logan Mankins. Schefter adds that the tag will cost the Patriots roughly $10.1 million.
This news isn’t very shocking considering that the Patriots have made it known in the previous weeks that they intended on tagging Mankins despite being against the idea.
During last years offseason, the relationship between Mankins and the Patriots seemed to become strained leaving many to question whether they would ever come to a longterm agreement but owner Bob Kraft still holds out hope that they will be able to get a longterm contract done at some point in time. Mankins on the other hand doesn’t share the sameย optimism.
If there’s one thing that’s for certain, its that the Patriots are better will him than they were without him at the beginning of 2010.
