NFL Notes: 49ers, Jets, Raiders, Rams, & Titans

49ers

  • Paul Gutierrez writes that the 49ers are in a unique position in that at No. 15, given that they have the luxury of drafting for need rather than taking the best player available.
  • Gutierrez doesnโ€™t completely rule out the possibility of the 49ers moving up for Alabama WR Amari Cooper.
  • According to Gutierrez, veteran LB Lance Briggs remains a free agent worth keeping an eye on the coming weeks for San Francisco.

Jets

  • Rich Cimini of ESPN believes the Jets would pass on taking Nebraska DE Randy Gregory, due to multiple failed drug tests.
  • Cimini has a hard time believing the Jets will use their No. 6 overall pick on an interior lineman such as Iowaโ€™s Brandon Scherff.
  • Cimini does not expect the Jets to trade up for DL Leonard Williams, even if he falls to the third pick in the draft.
  • According to Cimini, the Jets remain interested in free agent RB Stevan Ridley, but are willing to wait until after the draft to sign him.

Raiders

Rams

  • Nick Wagoner writes that although the Rams have shown interest in free agent C Stefen Wisniewski, it appears as though their interest has waned as of late.
  • According to Wagoner, the Rams have shown interest in a number of the top offensive line prospects including: Andrus Peat, Jamon Brown, Ereck Flowers and T.J. Clemmings.
  • Wagoner wouldnโ€™t be surprised if Brandon Scherff was eventually added to that list.
  • Wagoner admits that there is still time for the Rams to re-sign OT Joe Barksdale or sign a free agent like G Justin Blalock.
  • As for Rams free agent OT Jake Long, Wagoner doesnโ€™t expect any teams to show interest in him until he has shown his knee is healthy.

Ravens

  • Jamison Hensley of ESPN expects G Marshal Yanda to be the first Ravens player to receive an extension, followed by CB Jimmy Smith and K Justin Tucker.
  • According to Hensley, Smith and Tucker are both looking for a โ€œbigโ€ payday.
  • Hensley anticipates the Ravens signing Yanda to a four-year, $30 million contract at some point. Although, he isnโ€™t unsure of when a deal will be reached.
  • Hensley mentions G Kelechi Osemele, NT Brandon Williams and DT Timmy Jernigan as players in position to have breakout seasons in 2015.
  • Hensley rules out the Ravens drafting East Carolina WR Justin Hardy, due to owner Steve Bisciotti saying the team is looking to draft speedy receivers that can, โ€œtake the top off defenses.โ€
  • For small school players, Hensley mentions the following people to keep an eye on: Northern Iowa RB David Johnson, Samford S Jaquiski Tartt, Southern Illinois TE Mycole Pruitt, Harvard OLB Zack Hodges, and Towson DE Ryan Delaire.
  • Hensley expects second-year DE Brent Urban to get a shot at starting in 2015.

Titans

  • Paul Kuharsky of ESPN does not see the Titans using their second-round pick on a running back, due to the presence of RB Bishop Sankey.
  • Kuharsky believes there is a possibility the Titans trade down from the No. 2 pick if there is not a consensus belief that DT Leonard Williams is the best player available.
  • Kuharsky mentions drafting a quarterback at No. 2 could buy the coaching staff an extra year, if their jobs are in fact in jeopardy.
