NFL Notes: Bears, Bills, Broncos, Cardinals, & Jaguars

Bears

  • LSU has been reportedly been in contact with Bears defensive coordinator Mel Tucker about their defensive coordinator opening. (The Advocate)

Broncos

Jay Glazer reports that the relationship between Bronco president/GM John Elway and HC John Fox was no longer very good, and with the team’s loss in the division round of the playoffs, it became clear to Elway that it was best to move in a new direction.

This is not just something that happened because they lost in the playoffs,” Glazer said Monday night on FOX Sports One, via Pro Football Talk. This is actually a situation that has been going on for quite some time and I said yesterday on FOX NFL Sunday, ‘There are teams that are looking at the Denver Broncos, because if they lose, John Fox might become available.’  The reason I said that is because I already knew that there was a chance that John Fox was going to come available, just because the working relationship there between he and John Elway, it wasn’t the greatest working relationship.  With John Elway and John Fox, it started off great, but then it started not working out.

“John Elway looked at this season as, ‘This is all or nothing, with what we spent, you’ve got to go win us a Super Bowl.’  And the relationship between Elway, not just with Fox, but with the entire coaching staff, they both needed a split from each other.”

Bills

  • Alex Marvez confirms that Bills DC Jim Schwartz won’t return as the team’s defensive coordinator next year.

Cardinals

  • Mike Jurecki reports that the Cardinals are unlikely to hire Dick LeBeau as their defensive coordinator.
  • According to Jurecki, Arizona could instead offer him a similar to the one Tom Moore has, but on the defensive side of the ball.

Jaguars

  • ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Jaguars have requested permission to interview Cowboys  OC Bill Callahan for their offensive coordinator position.
