NFL Notes: Browns, Buccaneers, Cowboys, & Packers

Browns

Browns QBs coachย Kevin Oโ€™Connell mentioned that his opinion of Johnny Manziel hasn’t changed since they used a first-round pick on him last year.

My thoughts on Johnny have not changed,” Oโ€™Connell said, via ESPN.com. “I thought very highly of him before the draft when I got a chance to work with him. We spent a lot of time in the classroom, obviously talking about the NFL game from a defensive perspective as well getting ready to play the hardest position there is really, and how he would transition to that.

“We are still talking about a guy thatโ€™s in his second year now. Having been through it, obviously, getting some starts last year will help him.

“But I can tell you from the first time I met Johnny until now, I still see the same competitive guy that comes into work every day to get better, and thatโ€™s all we can really ask of him right now.

Buccaneers

Buccaneers DLย Henry Melton mentioned that the team hasย approached him about playing defensive end this season.

โ€œI played a little bit at (defensive) end last year,โ€ Melton saidย earlier in the week, via PewterReport.com. โ€œThey (Buccaneers) have brought that up to me and weโ€™ve been messing with the rotation a little bit. Weโ€™re just going to take it into training camp and see what works.โ€

Cowboys

  • According to Todd Archer of ESPN, there still haven’t been any serious talks between the Cowboys and Dez Bryant‘s agents,ย Tom Condon of CAA and Kim Miale of Roc Nation, since the two sides last spoke following theย NFL scouting combine back in February.
  • Archer mentions that any progress towards a contract extension will likely come down to whether the Cowboys buy into Bryant’s threat of sitting out of Week 1’s opener.

Packers

Packers WR Randall Cobb confirmed that he left some money on the table back in March after he decided to focus on getting a deal done with Green Bay.

As far as I know, there was a couple teams that money was left out there,” Cobb said, via Tom Pelissero of USA Today. “But there came a point Saturday morning, I just told my agent, ‘Focus on Green Bay. I don’t care about anything else. Get me back to Green Bay.’ ”
