NFL Notes: Chargers, Dolphins, Lions, Texans

Chargers

• There is a chance that RB Ryan Mathews (knee) could play in Week 9’s game. (Michael Gehlken)

“That’s in my head,” Mathews said Friday, via Michael Gehlken of the Union-Tribue. “I’m just going keep doing my treatment this week, come back on Monday, and see what they say.“

Dolphins

• Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald identifies WR Brandon Gibson, G Shelley Smith and 2013 first-round pick DE Dion Jordan as potential trade candidates for the Dolphins.

Lions

• ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that Lions HC Jim Caldwell is “looking big picture” in regards to WR Calvin Johnson and RB Reggie Bush, and is expected to hold them out of Week 8’s game.

Texans

• Former third-round pick WR DeVier Posey isn’t sure if he’ll get an opportunity to play this season.

“I have no idea. I have no idea. It’s out of my control,” Posey said, via Brian T. Smith. “I want to be there but this is what I’m asked to do, so this is what I have to do. You get (frustrated) but you understand.“

Posey, 24, still has two years remaining on his contract, but has yet to play a single snap this season. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing 135 snaps during the preseason, but also gave him a negative rating overall.
